| Our
Associate Manufacturers major area of focus since
the very inception has been on New and Renewable
Sources of Energy which are seen as a priority
area with a futuristic outlook. The company has
been working for technological advances in the
field of Biomass Gasification and Solar Thermal
applications. Major efforts have been put in for
Biomass Gasification wherein solid fuels (with
a number of inherent disadvantages) are converted
into a combustible gas which provides all the
modern day convenience of a gaseous fuel. |

| The
extent of R&D work undertaken can be clearly
seen by the fact that the Company has been spending
as much as 5 to 7% of its total turnover on R&D.
Such a high R&D expenditure has been over
and above the R&D work supported to the unit
by Government of India as well as by USAID (through
PACER/ICICI). A brief summary of key achievements
during the last 5-6 years is as follows : |

| Based
on its competence and expertise as well as past
track record in the field of technology development,
the Company received funding for a couple of R&D
projects from Government of India inspite of the
prevailing general policy (at that time) of not
sponsoring public funded R&D to private industry.
Both the projects were successfully completed
in time and within allocated funds and both have
resulted in commercial availability of State-of-Art
systems in the field of renewable sources of energy. |

| The
Company was also one of the first recipients of
conditional grant for an R&D project from
USAID funded PACER program managed by ICICI. Once
again, the project was successfully completed
in time and has resulted in availability of the
largest commercial gasifier system – Gasifier
Model AG-500. |
